Each crematory has a person assigned either full-time or part-time to carry out the duties of a crematory operator.
- Before the start of the cremation process the crematory operator makes a last check of the identity of the body to assure that the correct person is being cremated.
- Other checks are made to assure removal of jewelry, pacemakers and other battery operated devices.
- There is an explosive hazard with batteries in these units.
- If a casket is enclosing the body, the crematory operator removes and discards any non-combustible handles and other parts.
