How much ashes remain after cremation?

The quantity of cremated remains of an adult is comparable to the size of a 6 inch x 6 inch x 6 inch box or a large dictionary. The remains are the consistency of coarse gravel, and are light gray in color.

The intense heat of the crematorium consumes virtually all the organic material in the body, and what is left consists primarily of bone fragments. These are of various sizes, and a machine much like a coffee grinder reduces the cremated remains to a a consistent texture.

These remains are virtually odorless and weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 pounds.

Typically the cremated remains are delivered to your local funeral provider for inurnment or delivery.
