Cremation

Are there special caskets for cremation?

Yes.

  • High-end wooden caskets are available for rent. Hardwood varieties are equal to standard casket versions which retail for thousands of dollars. Yet, the rental price is in the hundreds of dollars. This option makes a traditional funeral with viewing possible along with cremation as means of final disposition.
  • They are designed so that all the linings, pillow and other materials that come in contact with the decedent are packaged upon removal and go with the decedent to cremation and replacement materials are used for the next rental. After the service, they are folded into a rigid, cremation container which encases the body inside the casket. The pillow stays in the rigid container. The entire box is removed from the casket, usually through a hinged casket end. A new kit is used to prepare the casket for the next rental. The rigid cremation container is capped and the encased body is sent either to storage or the crematory.

  • A wide variety of combustible caskets are available for purchase by cremation customers, from simple cardboard caskets all the way up to expensive hardwoods. Virtually any casket can be cremated with the body inside. After the procedure, all remaining metal parts are removed before the cremated remains are returned to the family.

  • Alternative containers of fiberboard or cardboard are often chosen when a casket is not needed for viewing.
